Protecting those who report the truth

Global Press Shield is an independent organization that protects journalists, defends their rights and documents violations against them, whoever commits them. We started in Palestine, where the world records the gravest violations against journalists, and we are building a protection network that reaches every journalist at risk, wherever they are.

Our vision in one minute

A short film about the vision of Global Press Shield: from Palestine, where journalists pay the highest price, to every journalist at risk.

About us

From Palestine, where the world records the gravest violations against journalists, to every journalist at risk.

Global Press Shield (GP Shield) is an independent organization founded in Palestine with a global vision. More journalists have been killed here since October 2023 than in any war the Committee to Protect Journalists has documented since 1992. What we learned in the most dangerous place on earth for the press, we bring to every journalist who is killed, jailed or threatened for their work, wherever they are.

We work on four tracks: protecting journalists in the field, defending them in court, documenting every violation whoever commits it, and pursuing perpetrators until they are held to account.

Our vision

A world where every journalist works in safety, and no crime against them goes unpunished.

Our mission

To be a shield for journalists: we reach them in the hour of danger, stand with them in court, and preserve the truth they paid for.

  • IndependenceWe belong to no party or political body, and we disclose our funding.
  • Monitoring without exceptionWe document every violation against journalists, whoever commits it.
  • Confidentiality and safety firstWe never publish a journalist's name or details without their consent.
  • Accuracy and evidenceWe verify every case before publishing and preserve evidence to legal standards.
  • Professional solidarityWe support every journalist and media worker, staff or freelance.

Get help or report a violation

If you are a journalist at risk, or you or a colleague suffered a violation, send us whatever details you can. Every request is handled in strict confidence.

  • Do not write anything in this form that could put you at risk if your device falls into someone's hands. A safe way to reach you is enough.
  • We prefer Signal, which encrypts messages end to end.
  • If your life is in immediate danger, first contact emergency services or the nearest party able to protect you, then write to us.

Support journalists in the field

Every contribution reaches a journalist in the field. We publish an annual financial report of everything we receive and spend.
